Tassilo Chalice and Paten (Item 119)
The Tassilo Chalice and Paten is a reproduction of an important and valuable early medieval liturgical vessel.
Created in the second half of the 8th century in the Salzburg area, it bears the name of its patron, Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria, who was renowned for his extensive activities in the ecclesiastical sphere.
The uniqueness of this Romanesque-style chalice lies in its typically Romanesque gilded engravings. Figurative motifs on a silver-plated background lend a sense of texture to this sacred vessel.
The circular base is decorated with a Latin inscription and medallions depicting the four Evangelists. The globe-shaped handle is richly decorated with ornamental motifs and a string of gilded beads.
The chalice is adorned with engraved figures of Christ, Saints Peter and Paul, and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This elegant paten has a smooth, gilded edge, while the center is decorated with two-tone chiseled star-shaped floral motifs.
The simplicity of its lines and the richness of its engravings make this set a precious object, suitable for any type of liturgical celebration.
