Romanesque-style chalice and paten (item 129)
A Romanesque-style chalice and paten produced by Molina, a Spanish manufacturer of sacred furnishings.
The chalice and paten set features an engraving on the chalice bowl depicting the 12 Apostles enclosed in niches.
The typically Romanesque design is accentuated by the base, which is decorated with a Greek fret and a Celtic cross, in contrast to the handle, which is adorned with an acanthus leaf motif. The geometry of the cup strongly evokes the medieval style.
The chalice is an object of great artistic value, not only because of the intricate figurative engraving but also because of the exquisite finish of the interior of the bowl, which is gilded—a detail also visible on the outer edge of the bowl.
The paten is decorated with a central border of interlaced patterns that frames a Celtic cross.
The creation of these sacred vessels—reproductions of ancient liturgical objects—requires a deep understanding of medieval artistic techniques, and it is this heritage that ranks the Spanish workshop Molina among the most important companies in the world of liturgical furnishings.
The chalice is part of the “Artesania Sacra” collection, which is Molina’s highest-quality line.
