“Plateresco” chalice in silver (art. ST 108)

The silver “Platerescochalice is a precious chalice made in plateresque style.

Plateresque is an artistic style that flourished in Spain in the 15th and 16th centuries. It is a very ornate architectural style and composed in imitation of the works of silverware (in Spanish plata), from which the name of plateresque comes.

The chalice, with a slender line, has a richly decorated surface with a fine hand engraving work. It has a smooth finish cup finished internally with a gold bath. The lower half-cup is richly decorated with chisel of lily friezes and stones set in aquamarine color.

Chiselling is performed on precious metals and consists of the cold plastic deformation of the metal, performed with chisel, which produces a relief processing, made of incisions and overhangs

Geometric friezes decorate the globe at the handle, while the polylobed base is finely chiseled with angelic heads.

Il calice, per la sua sontuosità ed eleganza, ben si adatta a mense classiche e a celebrazioni liturgiche solenni.
