“San Vincenzo” Silver Chalice (Item No. ST 61)
The “San Vincenzo” silver chalice is a precious sacred vessel crafted in the Plateresque style.
Plateresque is an artistic style that flourished in Spain during the 15th and 16th centuries. It is a highly ornate architectural style modeled after silverwork (plata in Spanish), from which the name “Plateresque” derives.
The chalice, with a slender line, has a richly decorated surface with a fine hand engraving work. It has a smooth finish, with the interior of the cup finished with a gold plating. The lower half of the cup is richly decorated with an interlaced Greek fret pattern and chiseled leaves.
The chiseling process is carried out on precious metals and consists in the cold plastic deformation of the metal, performed with chisel, which produces a relief processing, made of incisions and overhangs.
As is typical of this style, intricate friezes also decorate the globe at the handle and the hexagonal base.
Thanks to its sumptuousness and elegance, this chalice is well suited for traditional altar settings and solemn liturgical celebrations.
