Madonna dell’Arco cm 150 (art.5153)
The Madonna dell’Arco of 150 cm in fiberglass is a Marian statue entirely painted with oil colors.
Fiberglass is a type of glass fiber reinforced plastic that hardens after processing. The plastic material is spread on a mold, the design is copied and in this way it is possible to create artifacts of various sizes, thicknesses, strength, solidity, weight, color (pigmenting the resins).

The statue represents the Virgin with a red dress and the blue peplo that carries the Baby in her arms; two putti are at his feet. It is sober and refined and suitable for any liturgical context.
The Virgin is called “Madonna dell’Arco”, as the aedicule was located near an ancient Roman aqueduct. According to tradition, on Easter Monday in 1450 a young man, angry at the defeat suffered at the game of ball hammer, blaspheming violently threw a bowl against thesacred image:the effigy of the Madonna would have begun to bleed from the left cheek. The news reached the Count of Sarno, who set up a trial against the blasphemer, condemning him to death. The young man was hanged from the lime tree near the newsstand, which twenty-four hours later he dried up.
The statue is hand-painted with oil paints and has the particularity of having crystal occhi,a material that makes them very bright and plausible.
