The chalice cover (o chalice cover ball ) is a small one square of fabric measuring 15×15 cm with a rigid soul , used by the priest to cover the chalice during the Holy Mass , especially in the interval from Offertory to Communion.
This ancient altar piece has had an evolution over the centuries in the forms and materials used; it was generally made with fine fabrics and richly decorated, being intended to cover the sacred vessel . It was made of fabrics of various colors, depending on the liturgical time in which it was used.
The “Crocifisso” cup is embellished with refined embroidery direct of a stylized crucifix in gold . The golden agremano embellishes the edging of the ball.
