The Episcopal Chalice and Paten is a reproduction of an important and valuable early medieval liturgical vessel.<\/p>\n
The original chalice was made in the second half of the 8th century in the Salzburg area and bears the name of the person who commissioned it, namely Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria. <\/p>\n
He was famous, among other things, for his extensive work in the ecclesiastical sphere.<\/p>\n
What makes this Romanesque-style chalice unique are its typically Romanesque gilded engravings; in fact, the figurative motifs on a silver-plated background lend a sense of texture to this sacred vessel.<\/p>\n
The circular base is decorated with a Latin inscription and medallions depicting the four Evangelists.<\/p>\n
The globe-shaped handle is richly decorated not only with ornamental motifs but also with a string of gilded beads.<\/p>\n
The chalice is adorned with engraved figures of Christ, Saints Peter and Paul, and the Blessed Virgin Mary.<\/p>\n
The elegant offertory paten has a smooth, gilded border, while the center is decorated with two-tone chiseled star-shaped floral motifs.<\/p>\n
